Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Santa Cruz City Schools.  We have many opportunities for you to share your passion by supporting our students and schools, and helping where you’re needed most. Options include: classroom aide, food service, life lab, and coaching.  Volunteers require a background check, negative TB test results and COVID vaccination per CA Education Code and Board Policy.


How to Volunteer

Step 1  Reach out to a school

Call the school office of the school you would like to volunteer at to determine what volunteer opportunities are available. School office phone numbers can be found on our Santa Cruz City Schools website under the tab, “Schools.”


Step 2  Complete the Volunteer Agreement Form

After you have determined what school and position you would like to volunteer for, you need to complete the Volunteer Agreement Form.  All fields of the form must be completed.


Step 3  Get Approval from a School Administrator

Once you have completed your Volunteer Agreement Form, bring it to the school office to be signed by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or in cases of volunteer coaching, the Athletic Director.


Step 4  Schedule a time with SCCS Human Resources for Fingerprinting 

After your form has been approved and signed by a school administrator, contact Human Resources at (831) 429-3410 x 48236 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment.  Our office is located at:

Please bring the following documents with you:
1. Approved Volunteer Agreement Form
2. Photo ID (state driver’s license or ID, federal, state or local government issued ID card or school ID card with photo, US Military ID with photo, US Passport with photo or Alien Registration Card with photo)
3. Negative TB Test Results (done within the last three years)
4. COVID Vaccination Card

Step 5  Fingerprints and Background Check

Santa Cruz City Schools is required by the California Department of Education to fingerprint and background check every employee and volunteer who enters our district.   Even if you have been fingerprinted for another district you must still be fingerprinted for Santa Cruz City Schools, as it is prohibited to share this

Santa Cruz City Schools Human Resources Department will be notified electronically by the Department of Justice and FBI.  Once clearance is provided by the agencies, the Human Resources Department will notify the school that the volunteer has been cleared and is authorized to start.  Please be aware that all volunteering is handled through the individual school sites and a new volunteer form is needed for each site.
