Updates, upgrades & some new facilities thanks to our community & Measures A & B
In 2016, our Santa Cruz community overwhelmingly voted to invest in our schools with the passing of Measures A & B, which secured $208 million to go toward long overdue refurbishments and expansions to our school facilities. After nearly 20 years without a new investment in school infrastructure, required work in the district was projected to need over $350 million, but the district worked with community members, teachers and the Board of Trustees to create a clear and prioritized Master Plan to make our school environments ready for today and tomorrow.
And the facilities team got straight to work. From upgraded classrooms to new fields, pools, drinking and fire water pipe upgrades, new parking and walking areas, modernizations and beautifications. A new district wide network for state of the art connectivity, some new electrical infrastructure and plumbing, and we have even started green and sustainable work within our classrooms for the future, we've been building since 2017.
